Associate – Building Services Consultancy – Dublin 
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and client-focused Electrical/Mechanical Building Services expert for a consultancy client in Dublin. It plays a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of innovative electrical/Mechanical design solutions for some of the most exciting building projects in Ireland and internationally.

Working across a variety of sectors such as Government, Rail, Education, Commercial, Healthcare, Retail and Industrial, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians, and work closely with colleagues of various disciplines to manage the delivery of technically-excellent, profitable projects. You will develop new and nurture existing client relationships that maximise satisfaction and ensure repeat business, and will use your wealth of expertise and determination to manage, motivate and inspire less experienced engineers.
A Chartered Engineer, educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (MEng or BEng or equivalent) having gained vast engineering consultancy experience in an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering role within a building services context, you have proven your technical expertise in relevant design software, and have a portfolio of experience demonstrating your quality and client focussed approach.
In your most recent position, you have consistently demonstrated your ability to manage multiple large scale projects and teams to deliver to, and exceed client expectations, and crucially – you have a passion for creative and intuitive design.
Given the collaborative and client focused nature of this role, excellent communication and project management skills are essential. Under the direction of the Partner/Director, the Associate will take responsibility for the operational delivery of projects, the management of project teams, the management of client relationships and the line management of team(s). 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Delegation and supervision of work within project teams, and the provision of advice, guidance and coaching
  • Checking and/or verifying the work of less experienced staff, in accordance with Operational Procedures
  • Involvement in recruitment and selection activities, performance appraisals and performance management 
  • Assist with the preparation of fee proposal documents and fee calculations
  • Establish design concepts to ensure that designs are appropriate, deliverable and consistent with the client’s brief 
  • Monitor and manage (human) resourcing requirements for projects
  • Take responsibility for the technical control of projects, to ensure that all designs are technically sound and meet the client’s brief
  • Review and verify designs produced by direct reports and/or other team members, providing feedback as required and signing off designs before they leave the Practice 
  • Manage and control financial aspects of projects, co-ordinating input from other disciplines, and ensure that invoicing is carried out in accordance with agreed schedules
  • Follow project management and QA procedures, and ensure that direct reports do
  • Lead / participate in regular team meetings to ensure that direct reports and/or project team members are informed of key deliverables, deadlines, progress, issues & changes
  • Monitor direct reports’ progress and development throughout the year, providing regular, focused performance feedback, and ongoing support and guidance as required
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities, attending meetings and events, and contributing to the development of team/discipline/sector marketing plan

Qualifications & Skills 

  • Engineering qualification at Bachelor’s degree level or higher in a relevant discipline 
  • Proven experience across the project lifecycle, incorporating a variety of sectors 
  • Proven experience of managing projects and delivering to time and budgetary deadlines, whilst complying with operational and other procedures
  • Proven ability to manage resourcing requirements on projects and to co-ordinate the input of others from within and outside own team
  • Broad and deep technical knowledge in chosen engineering discipline, plus demonstrable understanding of other disciplines
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, to deliver current work and secure new business
  • Demonstrable understanding of issues of commercial and contractual risk, and a proven ability to mitigate these risks
  • Proven ability and commitment to the coaching and development of less experienced staff
