Get to know Emma Gibney – Senior Recruitment Consultant at Design Build Search

Tell us about yourself & DB Search

I’m from Castleknock originally, but now live in Bettystown with my partner. I love having the beach on my doorstep! I joined DB just over a year ago, I really enjoy working in the construction and engineering industry. I get to speak and meet with great people every day.

Tell us about your background?

My background is in retail. I studied Visual Merchandising in D.I.T and graduated in 2015. I worked in retail for over 10 years and really enjoyed it. I’m a creative person so working in visual merchandising was a fulfilling job.

How did you get into recruitment?

Like many recruiters…I got into it by chance! I had a friend working in tech recruitment at the time who said it was a great job, and super social. I felt ready for a change from retail. After a couple of interviews here and there, a construction recruitment agency took a chance on me and the rest his history.

How has your background helped you in your role?

My role in retail was super focused on KPI’s. I loved them, I enjoyed seeing my worked reflected in numbers. It was a motivator. Recruitment progress needs to be tracked too, so my experience and interest with KPI’s came in handy.

Why did you chose to join DB Search?

I felt at home from the beginning of my interview. I got great energy from the office, and could see myself fitting in well with the team.

What do you like about your role?

I enjoy getting to talk to so many people from different walks of life. No two days are the same in recruitment. I have the opportunity to speak to someone new every day, and learn about their life and career.

What makes you stay in DB Search?

The people! My team are great. I feel supported and motivated to do well.

What is your favourite mantra?

“This too shall pass.” Is one of my favourites! It’s a good reminder to cherish the great times that you have, and know that the hard times will pass too.

Fun fact about you?

I’m a Canadian citizen, I lived in Vancouver for 7 years!

Where would we find you when you are not recruiting?

Probably walking on the beach, or planning a road trip! I’m also a bit of a foodie, so I’m always up for trying a new restaurant 😊
